How tos and FAQs

How do I measure DNA/RNA concentration?

Please measure DNA or RNA concentration with a fluorescence-based measurement such as Qubit or Picogreen assay. These measurements tend to be specific for DNA/RNA. DNA can also be quantified on 1% agarose gel by comparing it to the size standard of known concentration.

We strongly advice not to use Nanodrop to measure sample concentration! UV-based measurements are in general inaccurate and Nanodrop with its low sample volume is the worst, resulting in significant overestimation.

We will typically use Qubit to check concentration of your samples and if you have this fluorometer in your lab it should be your first choice!
